Alte Meister, Neue Stimmen: Michael Müller on Correggio’s “Leda and the Swan”

In the first episode of the new video and audio podcast Alte Meister, Neue Stimmen (Old Masters, New Voices), moderator Julia Meyer-Brehm talks to artist Michael Anthony Müller about a painting from the Gemäldegalerie Berlin: Leda and the Swan, attributed to Correggio.

The conversation centres on the question of how mythological imagery has changed over the centuries—and what it can trigger in the present day. Michael Anthony Müller reflects on the depiction of power, sexuality and violence in art history and on how old role models are still inscribed in our view of art today.

It is not only about Correggio’s painting, but also about Müller’s own artistic practice between abstraction, myth and light—and about the connection between an old master painting and his own biography. A conversation about artistic memory, twins, light and what art does to us.

The podcast is a production of the Kaiser Friedrich Museumsverein in cooperation with the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.
