Michael Anthony Müller (1970) is a German-British artist based in Berlin. His work is driven by acts of translation. Drawing on history, mythology, literature, language and lived experience, he transforms inherited narratives into new visual and material forms. Rather than illustrating ideas, Müller reconfigures them through processes of variation, fictionalisation and displacement, unsettling established ways of seeing and opening them to new interpretations.

Working across painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, performance, writing and curatorial practice, Müller develops each body of work according to its own internal logic. Rejecting the notion of a fixed signature style, he allows every project to determine its own form. This openness has been shaped not only by his sustained engagement with European intellectual traditions but also by formative years spent in Ladakh and the Himalayan region, where questions of perception, belief and cultural translation became central to his artistic thinking.

Painting forms a central strand of Müller's practice. In expansive cycles, he places mythology and abstraction into dialogue, exploring how painting can carry narrative without becoming descriptive. Alongside his visual work, writing has become an increasingly important part of his practice, extending his exploration of language, memory and imagination into literature. Across all media, Müller creates works that invite viewers to encounter familiar narratives not as fixed truths, but as living structures that remain open to doubt, transformation and renewed experience.
