Wer spricht ? — Who’s speaking?

This publication accompanies the exhibition Wer spricht? [Who’s Speaking?], which was presented at the KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin from November 29, 2015, to January 24, 2016, putting works from the last fifteen years into dialogue with ones created specifically for this occasion. The catalogue translates the questions raised in the exhibition from space onto the page and adds a level of linguistic reflection and commentary to the plane of visual perception.

In terms of content, the exhibition and book start from the concrete conditions and possibilities of existence as an artist and examine society’s expectations of contemporary art and its true potential from an explicitly subjective perspective. The artistic oeuvre therefore finds itself engaged in an interplay between wishing to give individual expression to his idiosyncrasies and putting the individual (and himself as its representative) in relation to history and society, as well as utilizing art as a medium of exchange with and between people.
